“Shaun sings like Aretha Franklin was a 3rd Avett Brother.”
-Willie DeFord, Big Dominguez
Shaun Ray is a Southern-born, Colorado-based singer-songwriter and U.S. Army veteran whose artistry has been shaped by service, survival, and a deep bond with land and story. Splitting his time between Alabama and the Rockies, his music draws strength from the places he calls home and the journeys that brought him here.
Shaun has opened up for bands such as Son Volt, Los Lonely Boys, and Trout Steak Revival. After releasing his first album, ‘Fool To Your Crown’, and earning Solo Artist and Song of the Year honors from Grand Valley Live Magazine in 2017, Shaun stepped away from the stage to care for family and navigate personal trials—a failed marriage, his father’s battle with Alzheimer’s, and his own mental health struggles. Those years in silence sharpened his sorrow and enriched his perspective, laying the groundwork for songs steeped in grief, healing, and rediscovery.
Returning with renewed determination, Shaun blends raw emotional depth with nature-infused acoustic storytelling. Whether performing solo or with a full band, Shaun’s confessional sets invite listeners into the sacred tension between vulnerability and strength. His upcoming albums, ‘Behind The Facade’ and ‘Somewhere In Between’, promise to carry that intimacy further, echoing with the hush of sorrow and the roar of newfound hope. These songs aren’t just reflections—they’re evidence of survival.

“Foy Vance and Lord Huron must have made the man in a lab, for he is the perfect mix of the two, just with a little sprinkle of country added in the mix. Ray has a voice that just aches to be heard…”
— Mason Moore, The Criterion
“Shaun Ray left Alabama for the army; he left the army to study in the city; he left the city for the desert and the Colorado River. He builds his songs out of juniper, red dirt, heart break, and whatever they put in the water in Muscle Shoals. Shaun sings like Aretha Franklin was a 3rd Avett Brother.”
— Willie DeFord, Big Dominguez
